Northern Irish Dreamscapes
My curious nature always influences my work. I was first drawn to photography because black & white photographs felt like viewing another world. When I took my first photography class, we made pinhole cameras from coffee cans. And again, with this primitive camera, another magical world opened up.
Many years later, I wanted to open up that mysterious magic again with my digital SLR. With a plastic cap and aluminum foil, I turned my expensive high-resolution camera into something found in the 1800s. And I put it to work in Northern Ireland.
I’ve been visiting Northern Ireland since a trip to see a good friend’s home in 2008. The country is rich in imagery, from the notorious Troubles, Peace Walls, and the filming of Game of Thrones. It’s a country with a beautifully strong identity, yet living in a fuzzy political landscape between England and Ireland. Even though the images here are simple landscapes, I wanted to capture a bit of that fuzziness and beauty.
