Philips TV
The Intention:
Creating the Ultimate TV Watching Experience.
TP Vision, the manufacturer of Philips Smart TVs, sought to develop a cohesive visual language for the animations in their user interface. As the Motion & Visual Designer, I collaborated closely with their design team over an eleven-month period to refine the UI and elevate the UX, enhancing the overall television-watching experience. My work focused on ensuring a polished, seamless interaction flow, blending aesthetics with functionality to deliver a premium and engaging user journey.

The Process:
Bringing Static Designs to Life
Using Adobe After Effects, I developed animated prototypes to demonstrate how the television’s user interface would function in real-world use. Starting from static designs and schematics, I crafted an entirely new animated language to create smooth, intuitive interactions.
Television interfaces often involve complex layers of overlapping menus and frames. When I encountered challenges in the UX or UI during the animation process, I collaborated closely with the team to address these issues. This iterative approach ensured that the final experience was not only visually cohesive but also user-friendly.
Life to Static Screens
The static screen elements were defined, but their interactions were unclear. I animated menus and transitions to explore how they could flow seamlessly together.
Understanding Functionality
Screen flows were loosely mapped but lacked clarity when controlled with a remote. My animations simulated real-world use, making interactions more intuitive.
Goldilocks Animations
V animations must balance speed and clarity, offering just enough cues to guide users. I crafted quick, precise animations to help viewers form a clear mental model of the interface.
Final Television Animations
The primary goal of my animations was to validate the user experience of our designs. Once completed, the videos served two key purposes: they were shared with developers to guide the programming of the final product, and showcased at trade shows like IFA, where they highlighted the new product line in development.
TV Mobile App
A side project of my work at Philips TV was creating animations and prototypes for their personal TV app.
UX / Visual Design
After completing the motion design language for the main line of televisions, I was invited back to Philips TV for another project. This time, I was to create screen designs for their Hospitality product line. This included very specific use cases for information provided by hotels to their guests.
